Reggae Mystic

David Morgan - WRTC 89.3 FM, Hartford, CT
The Reggae Mystic Show started four years ago after branching off from the foundation of the Reggae Dynamics Crew, which consisted of Clint Wallace your Captain, David Morgan your First Officer and Richie Francis the Studio Engineer back in 1990. The Reggae Mystic show airs every Thursday from 12 noon to 3:00 pm on WRTC 89.3 FM.

My main focus is reaching out to the people in a musical way by playing positive reggae music. The Reggae Mystic show has a motto which is to Inform, Educate and Entertain.

The show follows a format where I take a "look" back in history on some of the historical events that occurred before our time, such as letting the listening ears know a little about the music and the people behind the scenes. While at the same time, we play a mix of vintage Studio One, culture and modern day reggae music.

Interviews are a plus for our audiences, because they are informed when the artists are in town and who is performing. Artists, Sound System operators and others generally stop by whenever they are in town.

I have been linking up with Richie B of RJR (Radio Jamaica) on the first Thursday of every month to find out what's happening in Jamaica on the reggae scene, live on the air. Since doing radio for six years, I have become more educated with what reggae has accomplished for generations. And since we have formed the Unified Broadcasters Association (U.B.A.), we have the power to move you in a mystical direction. PEACE!!

Ricky Steele - WKND 1480 AM, Windsor, CT

Ricky Steele, aka Raymond R. Richards was born in Trelawny, Jamaica. At a tender age he started writing and performing as a Reggae Rapper (DJ). In 1980 he had his first recording at Channel One Studios in Kingston, Jamaica, entitled Neat Me Sweat (Me Know how fi dweet). He went on to record songs like Dance Ha Fi Cork and Trouble in the World.

In 1988 he came to Connecticut, and picked up where he left off in Jamaica, by performing at dances and shows in and around the Hartford area. He has appeared with Technophonic and Crucial Massive. In 1992 he had his first recording in Connecticut, with Time Bomb on the Flyn & Flyn label.

In July 1995 he took his musical talents a little further by hosting a summer radio show on WKND 1480 AM, which aired every Sunday from 3 pm to sign off. Ricky currently alternates with Bobby Vicious as host of Sounds of the Caribbean, Saturdays from 6-10 am on WKND. His mission as a DJ is to unite people through Caribbean music. Now he is back on the recording scene with his brand new single, Chaos, recorded at Tape Work in Hartford. Check it out!

Bobby Vicious

Hi, I'm Bobby Vicious from station WKND 1480 AM in Windsor CT, just outside Hartford. My program is called Sounds of the Caribbean and it airs every Saturday morning from 6-10 am and it features all types of Reggae and West Indian music. I also throw in an occasional African beat, and I focus on the roots aspect of the music, featuring a wide variety of roots artists from yesteryear and today.

I am a lover of Dub Music and I possess an extensive collection of Dub. The late great King Tubby was my musical idol in my early years of listening to the music. I still listen to Tubby for musical inspiration.

My favorite artist is Aswad, and I have been listening to this group since their inception. Besides being a radio DJ, I own an operate the sound system, Vicious International Hi-Fi. I am an aspiring entrepreneur and song writer. I also DJ (rap), but none of my work has been published. This hobby was developed from listening to Hugh Brown toasting on the legendary King Tubby's Hi-Fi in the earlier days of my youth. Born under the sign of Pisces, I love life and freedom above all things.....Stay Alive. Requests for tapes are welcome. Bobby Vicious 1480 AM WKND.

Reggae Showcase brings to the forefront of the music scene, Producers, Musicians, Engineers, Arrangers, Songwriters and all the people who never get the recognition they deserve. While the showcase continues its mission to serve the community with positive music and messages, we hope to also help the less fortunate.

West Indian Rhythms

Phillip Mitchell - WWUH 91.3 FM, West Hartford, CT
West Indian Rhythms as the name implies is a program that provides a forum for West Indian music. There are two distinctly recognizable forms, one is calypso and the other is reggae, and it is with a real appreciation for these two artforms that this program is presented every Saturday 9pm to 12am (midnight) on WWUH 91.3 FM from the campus of the University of Hartford. In West Hartford, Connecticut, USA.

The program has a very strong cultural flavoring accentuating the positive. Driven by a sense of responsibility to the community this program remains strong in it's awareness contents, and is definitely down with the UBA (Unified Broadcasters Association) to musically entertain, educate and inform on a positive level.

The program is hosted by "Phillip E" a derivative of those musical backgrounds, hailing from the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (Point Fortin), now residing in the USA.

Reggae Rock

Yours truly, Mikey - WESU 88.1 FM, Middletown, CT
There is just two words to describe the Reggae Rock. Maximum excitement! Dancehall rules, but the program is unique in it's diversity. On any given show you will hear the latest vibes straight from Jamaica in addition to the classics, oldies and a mix of soca. I am your captain for three hours every Saturday night from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. on WESU 88.1 FM in Middletown, Connecticut.

Occasionally I do a live phone link on the air with some of the top artists in the reggae industry that adds spice to the program. Dennis Brown and Everton Blender are two of my favorite artists, and I have a major preferrence for the singers in the profession. Today, reggae has been dominated by too many DJs (rappers) and most of their music doesnot have wide appeal, especially if the goal is to spread the love and the power of the music to all corners of the universe!

The Reggae Rock is committed to provide quality reggae programming in southern New England. To this end, a bonafide commitment to the Unified Broadcasters Association has been made as we seek to uplift the community through positive selections. The Reggae Rock is a focal point for the airing of community events, interviews, concert reviews and a major resource for the West Indian community. I'm originally from a place wha name Portmore, in a de parish of St. Catherine, Jamaica. Give Thanks!
